Myth #6: “Change Has to Be Big to Matter”

There’s a belief that meaningful change has to be visible.

A new system.

A major rollout.

A full redesign.

Something that signals: This is different now.

But most of the change I’ve seen actually work didn’t look like that. It started smaller.

In leadership roles, one of the things I tried to do consistently was encourage early reporting. Not polished reporting. Not fully formed concerns.

Just… the moment when something felt off.

A question.

A hesitation.

A gut feeling that something wasn’t lining up.

Because what I saw—over and over—was that people often didn’t raise those things.

Not because they didn’t care.

But because they weren’t sure it “counted.”

So the shift wasn’t a new system. It was a different expectation: If it feels off, bring it forward.

And when they did, the work wasn’t to correct the person. It was to work with them. To understand what they were seeing. To find the root cause. To adjust the system where it actually needed it.

Not at the surface. At the source. No major rollout. No formal transformation. Just a consistent signal: Questions are allowed.

Early is better than perfect.

And “because we’ve always done it that way” isn’t enough.

What changed wasn’t the size of the intervention.

It was the timing. Because when concerns surface earlier, they’re smaller.

Clearer.

More manageable.

And that’s where the real impact happens.

Not in the moment of correction— but in the prevention of something larger.

Most meaningful change doesn’t announce itself. It shows up quietly, in what people feel safe bringing forward— and what the system does with it when they do.

Where have you seen a small shift create more impact than a large initiative?

If this resonates, share below or message me—I’d love hearing where early visibility has made the biggest difference in your work.
